Our Mission

Scholars for Syria was founded by students and faculty at the University of Evansville and is now operating on the campus of Seton Hall University in New Jersey. We began in January 2016 with a series of lecture/panel seminars informing the community about Syria: its history, politics, civil uprising, religion, and refugee crisis. Our mission is to educate the community on how to understand the current conflict, resist sweeping generalizations, help alleviate the suffering of refugees, and better support our Syrian students and their families both here and abroad. 

 

The legacy and appeal of U.S. universities has always included students and faculty as a force for positive social change. These force multipliers increase awareness of social and political issues and enhance a university’s standing in the local and global community.

 

Knowing that the future of Syria as part of a peaceful global community depends on its educated citizens, we are committed to this mission. We will continue our work and promote awareness, connection, and fundraising opportunities so the displaced Syrian community can experience this positive force for change.

 

Scholars for Syria is committed not only to its Syrian population but to honoring the universities and individuals that have provided a safe haven in which these students can continue their education and give back to the community and the country that has sheltered them.
